1. SLEEPING SERIES 2021-ongoing

Sleeping series is the most important part of Oleksandra`s practice. The latest works are a search for peace in sleep through new forms and techniques. Earlier works explored sleep during the war and air defense alarms. Sleeping studies are full of sleep-death analogies in the anticipation of a tragedy coming.

The Sleeping started in 2021 and is ongoing as the most extended in time and quantity of works series.

Sleeping self-portraits, sleeping babies and children, partially depicted bodies are united by the theme of tranquility and stillness in the latest works.

2. HISTORY THAT NEVER HAPPENED 2024

The project is a mythopoetical collection of artistically interpreted "artifacts," sketches, and museum-like descriptions of mythological species that will never exist.

In this project, myth helps to imagine a world where evolution develops along an alternative path, without human influence.

Human activity today is the main cause of species extinction. It creates a new future reality without species directly affected by humans. The new forms of life that could have evolved from the extinct creatures in the future will not be there.
The objects are made of clay and etched metal leaf. They are complemented by small scale oil paintings on canvas.

3. BIRD SIGNS 2023-2024

BIRD SIGNS project comprises of a number of paintings and a sound art piece. It uses a visual allegory to sign language.

The theme is inspired by the late XIX century practice to use birds in mines as harmful gas ”alarms”. If the bird died everyone else in the mine had to be evacuated due to a thread from dangerous gases. Oleksandra uses hand paintings and a soundtrack to tell the story.

Today the birds are not a part of this inhumane practice any more, but we witness the world using the most vulnerable as an indicator for common danger. Can a change be made before someone gets hurt?
